whAT IS ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy is the simple and therapeutic act of spending time in nature. Walking in the woods and observing it and nothing else. Simply being present in that physical space and your awareness is heightened by the frolicking of a chipmunk or scattering of a squirrel. Using all of our senses in nature brings us one step closer to our origins. Instead of the many steps back that we as a society have paced ourselves.

One hour in nature can be the most effective to improve mood, focus and physiological markers like blood pressure and heart rate. It can activate your parasympathetic nervous system which is known for managing the rest and digest functions. Even down to the very soil which harbors beneficial bacterial, that when breathed in creates a flooding of serotonin reactions in the our brain.

DIscover your inner self

When we take a moment out of our daily lives to immerse ourselves within the natural world, it acts like an internal switch, when turned on can facilitate equanimity and lower anxiety caused by the monkey mind.

The idea that humans have distanced themselves from their roots of hunter-gatherer or even an agrarian existence leaves me wildly wondering how many beneficial organisms we lost from the soil that served to regulate our immune systems.

shinrin-yoku

Shinrin-Yoku is the Japanese art of Forest Bathing. If you've ever been in a forest, listened to the birds and watched the sunshine filtering through the leaves, you've already participated in one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental well-being. Even Japanese doctors regularly prescribe forest bathing as an antidote for calming the monkey mind from the everyday flow and hectic urban life.

Appreciate your surroundings and listen to the sounds around you: twittering birds, rustling brush, trickling streams. Breathe in clean, fragrant air and soak in the sights of the textured ground and the shapes of the leaves in the sky. Touch the soft, green moss carpeting the shaded stones, or the rough bark on the trees. Let the stillness around you influence your state of mind and make you forget the constant motion of the city.

Ecotherapy Review

“Adam was immensely awesome! He literally drove up to where we were staying and created a custom hike for my partner and I. You know when things “Happen for a reason”? Well, I don’t know how our adventure with Adam could have gotten any better. We danced on the beach, shared a quite moment under as waterfall and watched the incredible sunset through cotton candy clouds!”
